Become an Amos Student

You must fulfil all of the criteria below:

  • British of African and/or Caribbean heritage
  • In Year 12 (at the time of applying)
  • Attended a state school/academy/college in London or the West Midlands throughout your entire secondary education
  • Hold at least 6 GCSE’s Grades 9 – 6 (A* – B)
  • Have the right to work and live in the UK
  • Qualify for home student status at a UK university
  • Are hard working and committed to making the most of every opportunity

Plus at least two socio-economic criteria from this list:

  • Have been looked after/accommodated in care
  • From a single-parent family
  • Have a household income below £40,000 or in receipt of income-related benefits
  • Received free school meals at any time during your education
  • Limited tradition of attending university in the family
  • Require financial support to attend university due to family circumstances
  • Live in a neighbourhood with a low rate of progression to higher education and/or a high level of socio-economic deprivation
  • Attend a school with low average attainment levels for GCSE or A-level
  • Other economic or social disadvantage not listed (you will need to detail this in your personal statement)

What The Amos Bursary provides

Since 2021 we have been able to offer a Triple Track Programme made up of our

  1. Progressive Network – a digital first community of highly ambitious young people with shared heritage, life experiences and drive, supporting one another to succeed. You must have completed an eligible Amos Bursary application to join.
  2. Associates – self motivated young people with a drive to grow and develop. If you are invited to interview you are automatically eligible for this programme.
  3. Scholars – more widely recognised as our original learning, development and support programme. These talented young people, having gone through our full, rigorous selection process, and will benefit from all The Amos Bursary has to offer.

As an Amos Bursary student you have the opportunity to excel on any of the three tracks. You benefit most if you remain engaged, motivated and make the most of every opportunity presented.
